[ARCHIVED] Casino Hearings - Like marriage vows "We speak up now or forever hold our peace."

Join us as we Speak Up for our Community! There's no time to waste, and we can't afford to be locked into the problems of a casino from which there will be no turning back. To step up and save us read below...

The following guidelines apply to each of the three presentation days – 10/21, 10/23, 10/25. All events are open to the public and the schedule for each day is below:

2:00 p.m. – Site Visit

The site visit will be a brief walk-through of the proposed facility location. While this event is open to the public, there will be no public interaction with the Video Lottery Facility Location Commission (Commission) or the applicants (Casino Corporations). This should only last 30-45 minutes.

•Monday, October 21:
Prince George’s Racing Ventures, LLC (Hollywood Casino Resort at Rosecroft Raceway).
?Location: Front entrance of Rosecroft Raceway located at 6336 Rosecroft Drive, Ft. Washington, MD 20744.
Parking will be available near the front entrance to the facility.

•Wednesday, October 23:
Maryland Casino, LLC (Parx Casino Hotel).
?Location: Entry to the site will be at the intersection of Kaydot and Old Fort Road (across the street from McDonalds) in Ft. Washington.

•Friday, October 25:
MGM National Harbor, LLC
?Location: Adjacent to the 295/495 interchange. Take the National Harbor exit and follow signs to Harborview Avenue. There will be signs pointing to the location.

3:30 p.m. – Applicant (Casino Corporation) presentation to Commission
•Location: Friendly High School’s Janelle M. Moore Auditorium, 10000 Allentown Road in Fort Washington, MD.

The applicant (Casino Corporation) presentation to the Commission will be an hour in length. This will be an opportunity for the Commission to ask questions of the applicants (Casino Corporations). As with the site visit, this event is open to the public, but there will be no public interaction with the Commission or the applicants.

HERE'S OUR MOST IMPORTANT PART:
6:00 p.m. – Public Comments (including brief public presentation by applicant)
•Location: Friendly High School’s Janella M. Moore Auditorium, 10000 Allentown Road in Fort Washington, MD.

The public comments will begin with a brief presentation by the applicant (Casino Corporation) of about 10-15 minutes. After the presentation, applicants (Casino Corporations) will no longer be involved in the Location Commission’s meeting.

There are two ways to sign up to testify in person:
1.Visit this site to sign up. (See the link!)

The online sign-up will only be available until 12:00 a.m. prior to the meeting. After midnight, you will have to wait until 4:30 p.m. to sign up in person at the Friendly High School auditorium. WRITTEN COPIES OF COMMENTS DO NOT NEED TO BE SUBMITTED - yay!
2.Sign up at the auditorium on the day of the meeting. Witness sign-up sheets will be available in the lobby of the auditorium by 4:30 p.m. and available until 5:50 p.m.

IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT, submit written comments (in place of commenting in person), email testimony to: VLFLC.Comments@Maryland.gov

Commission Chairman Donald C. Fry will begin by reviewing the guidelines and instructions for comments. THIS IS US!
•Individuals will be given three (3) minutes (this includes elected officials).
•If an individual is speaking on behalf of an organization, he/she will be given five (5) minutes.

Chairman Fry will call individuals in the order they have signed up to speak ***(beginning with the online sign up, and moving to the in-person sign up)***, and will call eight at a time – four to the first standing microphone in aisle 1, and four to the second standing microphone in aisle 2. As people complete their comments, the chair will call more individuals up at his discretion.

At his discretion, the chair will make a “last-call” at the end of the comments for any late arrivals who were unable to sign up to testify.

NOTE: Posters, flyers and signage of any kind on Friendly High School property is prohibited.
